Gas Absorber Systems

Gas Absorber

Absorption is nothing but a thermal operation to separate a selective liquid that absorbs an element of a gas mixture. Gas absorber helps in removing the pollutants from the gas streams, such as an exhaust.

A Gas absorber uses a column that contains the structured or random packing materials. Packed bed absorbers are said to utilize the gas as well as liquid streams that pass the countercurrent to each other.

Application

Our Automated Gas Absorption unit is applicable at various levels such as the research & development department in the Industrial sector uses it to recover the gas from the mixture, it also helps in the study of the process variables via controlling and defining other parameters. Many educational Labs use the Gas Absorption Unit to understand the students and carry out specific experiments for their distillation study with the pre-defined reflux ratios.

Automated Gas Absorber Unit

The Gas absorption unit runs a process where the mixture of gas is released with a liquid to dissolve one or more elements of the gas mixture preferentially. Our Automated Gas absorber helps the user in defining and controlling the absorption process parameters; it derives an estimation based on the data automatically received or fed manually from the process instruments.

The Gas Absorption Unit is wholly made of glass assembled with all the necessary instruments such as Sensors, heating mantle, flow stabilizers, SCADA system to define and control the process parameters and Weatherproof Local Panel.

We offer two types of Absorption column

  • Packed column.
  • Sieve Tray column

The gas absorption process is widely popular as scrubbing. It is a process where a gas mixture comes in contact with a liquid with a purpose dissolving several elements of the gas mixture in the liquid and providing them with a solution. Hence, a mass transfer of the elements from the gas to the liquid phase can be seen.

In the process of gas desorption popularly known as stripping, the mass transfer of gas happens in the opposite direction.

Let us focus on the Gas absorption unit analysis, in a simple way where only a single element in the gas solution is absorbed. All the other elements of the gas are considered as non-soluble in the liquid, and there isn’t any transfer of elements from the liquid phase to the gas phase as the liquid inside becomes non-volatile.

Moreover, we can assume that no chemical reaction happens in the unit during the operation in an isothermal atmosphere. The Gas absorption process hence involves the separation of the solute from the gas via non-diffusing liquid.

Top Five Operating Principles

Let’s explore the top five operating principles of a Gas Absorption Unit with an example.

Condenser:

The high temperature and pressure from ammonia vapor discharge the heat into the heating system of the condenser. During which, the vapor changes its state of matter and converts into liquid. This hot liquid is then transferred to the evaporator via the expansion valve.

Expansion valve:

The high-pressure ammonia liquid passes through the expansion valve, where it tends to lower the pressure. At the current pressure, ammonia has reduced its boiling point making the liquid return back to its vapor form. This vapor then goes into the evaporator.

Evaporator:

In this compartment, a fan pulls the ambient air via the fins of the evaporator. This ambient air contains a significant amount of free renewable energy, which is held by the ammonia vapor. The currently heated low-pressure vapor gets transferred to the absorber.

Absorber:

In the absorber compartment, the fragile ammonia solution released from the generator gets recombined with the hot vapor released from the evaporator. As the weak ammonia solution combines with the vapor, the vapor starts converting into a liquid, which further releases the heat into the heating system. Now the recombined solution of ammonia gets pumped back to the generator.

Pump:

The pump tends to help in transferring the ammonia solution from absorber to the generator, and the whole process starts again.
